The wheat offered in the Bread of the Magyars - 15 million grains of wheat program was ceremoniously poured on Friday in the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park.
Sándor Farkas , the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, recalled at the ceremony that the selfless, helpful association of the Hungarian farming community in the Carpathian Basin started in Pécs in 2011, and today, in addition to its symbolic importance, it has actual weight and a concrete product. Ten years ago, 10 tons of grain were collected, today it is more than 1,100 tons, from which almost 700 tons of flour can be made. This reaches needy children, families, and elderly people with the cooperation of about six hundred civil organizations.

The politician, who also holds the post of regional parliamentarian, said that this year's spring weather was not favorable for grains, and in the warm, dry weather, wheat, barley and rye ripened earlier than expected in many places, the quantity and quality of the harvest in some areas of the country was mixed. At the same time, the yield of winter wheat set a historic record, the producers in the motherland harvested more than 5 million tons of winter wheat from 846 thousand hectares.
There is a great demand for Hungarian grain both at home and abroad. And this success praises the Hungarian people, the farmers - stressed Sándor Farkas.
The politician stated that agriculture is the successful sector of our country, and today society also values the work of farmers.
The government pays special attention to the farming community and the countryside. In the past three years, during negotiations on the reform of the EU's common agricultural policy, he consistently and resolutely represented the interests of Hungarian farmers, and the negotiations ended successfully. In addition, the government made a historic decision to increase the domestic co-financing of the Rural Development Program from the previous 17.5 to 80 percent, providing more resources than ever before to domestic agriculture. Compared to the previous cycle, an amount three times larger, HUF 4,265 billion, can be spent on the development of the Hungarian agriculture and food industry in the support period until 2027, the state secretary announced.
István Jakab , the vice-president of the Parliament and the president of the Association of Hungarian Farmers' Cooperatives and Farmers' Cooperatives (MAGOSZ), emphasized that the idea of the program was born 11 years ago, during which time the amount of grain donated has increased more than a hundredfold, and through the initiative they are already able to provide assistance to a hundred thousand people . Among the donors are not only farmers from the Carpathian Basin, they have joined from other countries in Europe and even from other continents.
Balázs Győrffy , the president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy, said that the Bread of Magyars program has become a national event, an expression of belonging and solidarity.
