According to Krisztián Kulcsár, the president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB), the Hungarian team, which returned home with twenty medals, performed extremely well at the Tokyo Games that ended on Sunday.

At Wednesday's press conference, the head of the MOB emphasized that the preliminary ideas were fulfilled 100 percent, and recalled that in 2019 there were only 13 medals in the professional prognosis.

Covid had no influence on the performance of the Hungarians. Surpassing Rio, we won medals in nine sports and finished in the points in 12 sports, 70 of our Olympians finished in one of the first six places," Krisztián Kulcsár said, adding that boxing, athletics and gymnastics also left a sense of loss.

Sports director László Fábián – referring to the original year and the number of Hungarian medals – summarized the Tokyo Games as "twenty-twenty-twenty". He also pointed out that before this year's Olympics, Finland was first in the number of gold medals per million inhabitants, but now Hungary is at the top of the all-time ranking.

"An unprecedented result has been achieved in Japan, and our hearts ache a little for the Hungarian karate, which won the bronze, which will no longer be on the program in Paris, but hopefully it will not be the last time we see it at the Olympics," explained László Fábián.

General Secretary Bálint Vékássy announced that the HUF 956 million allocated by the MOB for the Tokyo Games proved to be sufficient.
