The role and opportunities of civil organizations in Hungary - Why is it worth being active in civil communities even at a young age? The Hungarian University of Agrarian and Life Sciences (MATE) is launching a new elective course with the support of the Prime Minister's Office - announced the ministry's deputy state secretary for civil and social relations on Thursday in Gödöllő.

At the press conference held at the higher education institution, Vince Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized that the aim of the initiative is to draw students' attention to the activities of civil organizations.

In the first semester of the new academic year, the 90-minute lectures will be held once a week, and topics such as the creation and management of civil organizations, civilians as employers, volunteering and donations will be discussed, he added.

The relationship between civilians and the family, education, culture and preservation of traditions, the role of civil organizations in climate and environmental protection, the preservation of national identity, and relations with Hungarians across the border will also be discussed, he added.

The Deputy State Secretary stated: the importance and raison d'être of the new subject is shown by the fact that around 400,000 people do voluntary work in various civil organizations in Hungary.

This activity and civil life itself is about service, and its most important mission is to create community and create values, he said.

István Szabó said: the request of the Deputy State Secretariat for Civil and Social Relations of the Prime Minister's Office was received with pleasure, since MATE, which starts the new academic year with more than four thousand students, is committed to imparting modern, up-to-date, practical knowledge.

In the spirit of this, a new curriculum program package with an ascending system was developed, from which optional subjects help students to become broad-minded intellectuals. The most recent of these is the new civil theme, in the framework of which state secretaries, legal experts, and leaders of civil organizations will hold presentations, he said.
