A charity auction was held to help the Covid orphans. The entire amount received from the bidding of the clothing collections at the fashion show will be transferred to the István Regőczi Foundation .

Minister of Justice Judit Varga, the main patron of the charity evening, reminded us that we had to experience how fragile life is: parents, grandparents, friends, colleagues were taken away by the epidemic, and in addition to the losses, a tragic word connection became part of everyday life: Covid orphans .

In Hungary, nearly a thousand children lost one or both parents, hundreds of families were affected by the loss. The minister added: We Hungarians regularly prove that we are able to help very quickly and efficiently in a short time in case of trouble. The initiative was followed by a wide-scale social cooperation, during the summer many organizations and individuals joined the initiative.

"You can't always do what you have to do, but you always have to do what you can," the
Transylvanian prince Gábor Bethlen quoted Judit Varga as saying. This principle guided the life of father István Regőczi, the foundation's namesake, who helped and protected orphaned children for decades despite the tortures of the communist dictatorship, he added.

"Today we did not come to celebrate, but to fulfill our philanthropic and patriotic duty and to join forces to help those who need it the most right now. We hope that when these children grow up, they will remember their country as a helping hand that was able to provide real support in times of trouble. We Hungarians have always believed in the power of love and togetherness," said Judit Varga.

The István Regőczi Foundation was established by President János Áder and his wife Anita Herczegh with the aim of providing long-term and personalized care to children who lost one or both parents during the pandemic. The foundation wants to provide support that can be a solution until the children reach adulthood or finish their studies, start working and are able to take care of themselves.
