The renovated Csíkszentmihály church was handed over with a bishop's blessing.
The renovated Roman Catholic church in Csíkszentmihály was blessed at noon on Wednesday in the presence of priests and lay leaders. Thanks to the renovation, the church not only shines in its new light, but very valuable frescoes from the Middle Ages were also discovered.
At the beginning of the farewell mass, local parish priest László Szilveszter Tankó thanked for the large-scale renovation, the faithful's perseverance and their trust in God. As he indicated, the tower of the renovated church also points towards the sky, thereby indicating our eternal homeland. After the church blessings, László Kerekes, the assistant bishop of the Gyulafehérvár Archdiocese, blessed the church and its courtyard. In his homily, he also thanked the community for the renovation. For us, above all, the church is the place where we can experience God's presence. The faithful create the place and the environment that shows the closeness to God. Our Christian existence is greatly influenced by this presence, when we can feed on spirituality, he said in the sermon. At the end of the Mass, church councilor Róbert Bogos shared details about the renovation. In 2016, the project was started with the preparation of plans, and the acquisition of permits was delayed until 2019, so the work could begin at the beginning of the following year. First, the 37-meter-high tower was restored, and in addition to the new double cross and new lightning rod, a time capsule was also placed in it.
A new double cross was placed on the tower of the Csíkszentmihály church A new cross was recently placed on the tower of the Roman Catholic castle church in Csíkszentmihály as part of the comprehensive renovation of the monument complex. There is also a time capsule in the tower sphere. In the case of the sanctuary, structural reinforcement was needed, here, in addition to the three Gothic windows, the lighting, the sound system, and the electric heating of the benches were completed. After the roof was demolished, several beams had to be replaced, and during the strengthening of the floor of the sacristy, medieval graves were found. XV. century fresco of Saint László was also found, and elsewhere a wall painting depicting Saint Elizabeth was also unearthed. The last moments included the restoration of the organ, the preparation of the sidewalk and the arrangement of the yard. László Tóth, Consul General of the Consulate General of Hungary in Csíkszereda, highlighted the sustaining power of Christianity in his celebratory speech.
We chose not to destroy, not to give up, but to build. We erect crosses, build and renovate churches. To remain Christian and Hungarian, faithful to our church and our community, this is our task, he said, and then he also interpreted the message of Miklós Soltész, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations.
