The mutual courtship of Gergely Karácsony and Péter Márki-Zay in the political public has been going on for days. The mayor of Hódmezővásárhely was probably also surprised by his one-fifth vote share in the primary election and is now trying to make the most of his unexpected situation.

He waves his resignation, but then shines a light on his own greater chances. You know, the eyes of the left-wing public are on him and he seems to want to pay back his silence after his 2018 outburst.

This excessive desire to act is also the reason why Márki-Zay did not end up in one of the left-wing parties, but was forced to invest in a green field in the political market.

None of the parties lacked his hypermobility, writes Sámuel Ágoston Mráz.
Due to Gergely Karácsony's weak primary campaign and barely one-quarter of the vote, he cannot dictate the terms and pace as his campaign strategists had dreamed.

You have to put up with it and even have a good image for Márki-Zay's game.

The situation has been comical for days, but with Monday's agreement between Karácsony and Márki-Zay, it turned into comedy. The two mayors essentially announced that they would govern together as twins. They enter the second round of the primary election together, they appear before the voters together, and they always make decisions together in consultation. Maybe they will even share an office.

This all seems more like absurd humor than any kind of solution.
However, before anyone can smile, it is worth seeing the dark sides of the "no-compromise agreement". In fact, the two mayors presented themselves as politicians incapable of making decisions and thus governing. Whoever is finally nominated as head of government, the other party will have a blackmail potential against him from here on, which will reduce his political room for maneuver to a minimum.

After an imaginary left-wing victory, Hungary's leadership would say that the actual and the imaginary prime minister will consult each other for a long time, without being able to come to an agreement. Their relationship, which is in crisis again and again, should be reconciled through constant consultation.

Only Ferenc Gyurcsány would laugh at such a comedy, and Klára Dobrev would take over from them at a speed that would put young Gyurcsány to shame.

Who will tell Gergely Karácsony and Péter Márki-Zay that the king is naked? The loudspeakers of the left are deeply silent, their journalists hide behind the facts and report without comment on the supposedly rising white smoke. Many of them are probably pushing for Christmas and don't even dare admit to themselves that the fictional model is a bad joke.

If nothing else, I say: it's a big problem. Instead of a responsible decision, the partial result of a fictitious primary election brought chaos-like conditions to the left. In the meantime, Viktor Orbán can safely plan his fifth government - it can be read on the Nézőpontok blog, in the writing of the political analyst.
