Gergely Karácsony is discussing the withdrawal with the socialist leadership, HVG and ATV also learned about this. According to the latter, after the Karácsonys started considering the withdrawal after Momentum decided on Thursday afternoon, they would stand behind Péter Márki-Zay. According to several independent leftist sources, the mayor will announce his decision on Friday.

If Karácsony and the socialists retreat, practically only the Gyurcsány party will be left standing among the opposition parties. The candidate of Jobbik, Péter Jakab, and the momentous Fekete-Győr were already eliminated in the first round. And the mayor's step back could lead to the final weakening of the MSZP, Párbeszéd and LMP.

Gyurcsány can stay at the end

According to our information, the socialist general staff is also aware of this, and they are trying to win over the stranded Christmas. We know that the MSZP presidency is also considering standing behind Márki-Zay, which, according to our socialist source, could cause serious displeasure among the remaining members, so disappointed sympathizers will be able to vote for Dobrev instead.

The MSZP is not sure that Márki-Zay's possible victory is in its interest. The mayor of Hódmezővásárhely is considered by many to be too "unpredictable, independent" politician. In addition, Márki-Zay wants a government of experts without party politicians, and would also keep the family tax system, which has been criticized a lot by socialists in recent years.

On Wednesday afternoon, Karácsony also spoke about the fact that, despite the unfavorable surveys, he will not withdraw from the second round of the primary election. Referring to the same surveys, Márki-Zay said that he is completely out of the question to step back.
