His short life and the harmony in which it was filled help many to find the path to sainthood, said Antonia Salzano, the mother of the beatified Carlo Acutis, to the Italian news portal SIR.

Carlo Acutis was beatified by Pope Francis a year ago in Assisi. Since then, her holiday has been celebrated on October 12, the anniversary of her celestial birthday - on this occasion, we recall her mother's words.

Through the stories of the holy boy's mother, who died early, the world got to know the wonderful story that led to the start of the beatification process. According to the story, a child suffering from a serious pancreatic disease was miraculously cured after praying to Carlo, without even needing a life-threatening operation.

Carlo's name quickly became known through the stories. "Since his death, people have trusted him," his mother noted. He also told that a woman suffering from cancer was cured by asking for Carlo's intercession, who also attended the boy's funeral; but he also knows a story according to which a 44-year-old woman who was said to be infertile began to pray to Carlo, and after a month she became pregnant.

As people entrusted themselves to Carlo, the news of his sanctity spread: young people created prayer groups and recalled his story as a testimony. According to the mother, Carlo helped many people get closer to God. "Many people reported to us about miracles, special graces and conversions," added Antonia, who, as she said, was filled with great comfort.

According to the mother, the family always had the impression that their son was different from other children of his age. "While he was still alive, we realized that Carlo was a special boy: his goodness and prayer life were different from the others," said Antonia.

At the same time, in some respects, Carlo lived a life just like any other child of his age: for example, he was fond of the Internet - although, unlike his contemporaries, he used it for other purposes. As Sunday wrote about it: he put technology at the service of the Eucharist, which was at the center of his life, and with its help he tried to convey the message of sacramental adoration to as many people as possible.

His mother also noted that he liked to be with his friends, he was a very nice child; he did everything with the greatest equanimity and imbued with hope.

God was always at the center of his everyday life, with the Holy Mass and the rosary.

Carlo Acutis died young, at the age of 15, in 2006, a very aggressive form of leukemia ended his earthly life. In a decree written in 2018, Pope Francis recognized the young man's virtues and called him an honorable servant of God. His life was an excellent example of how we can turn to God with devotion even in the age of advanced technology.

The first stained glass window featuring Carlo Acutis was inaugurated a few months ago in the Church of San Giuseppe in Molfetta, Italy.
