We invite you to sing! - The Youth for the Nation Foundation announces a youth folk song competition covering the entire Carpathian basin.

"We believe that we must protect and pass on our cultural heritage; this basic idea guided us when we started our initiative. We would like to make this branch of our culture known as widely as possible, and to encourage young people to sing," reads the announcement sent to our editors.

As they write: "We hope that our competition will help young people get more involved with folk songs, and by sharing the song bouquets, the followers of our Facebook page will be able to recall their old knowledge and even acquire new ones.

We are looking forward to applications from elementary and high school students with singing lips from the entire Carpathian basin to the competition, thereby showing that borders cannot hinder the promotion of our common culture."

Due to the epidemic situation and in order to bridge the distances, the folk song competition will be held with the help of online video entries. All entrants are asked to create a song set of 3 songs, a maximum of 2-3 minutes, which you send to them in a high-quality video recording.

Entrants will be evaluated in two categories: there will be professional and audience award winners, who will all receive valuable prizes.

In the professional category, such well-known artists as: Marianna Majorosi (Kossuth prize-winning singer, dancer, teacher, member of the Csík band) evaluate the works; Török Török (obtained performance artist and master's degree in folk violin at the Liszt Ferenc University of Music, plays kobos and tilinka, sings, member of Török Tilla Orchestra) and Gyula Ács (folk musician, folk music researcher, collector, founder of the Borókás Orchestra, Béla Bartók Zenekar in Miskolc) and teacher of the Dance Arts High School).

You can apply for the competition between November 9 and January 9, 2022. The application form can be downloaded HERE . Further details and entry conditions are available HERE .
