In addition to more than a hundred LGBTQ series, this summer Netflix launched a new animated cartoon series for preschool children, in which three LGBTQ characters also appear. According to constitutional lawyer Zoltán Lomnici Jr., the best-known and most used American streaming platform among Hungarians is free to determine the content of its service, but at the same time it is responsible for complying with the law, reports Origo.

According to paragraph 6/A of the Child Protection Act , it is forbidden to make available to those under the age of 18 pornography, as well as content that portrays sexuality for its own purposes, promotes or displays deviation from the self-identity corresponding to the sex at birth, gender reassignment, and homosexuality, called on the The legal expert of the Századvég Foundation has drawn attention to Ridley Jones, a cartoon series featuring LGBTQ characters on Netflix, confirming that this provision also applies to Netflix , which does not provide a linear media service.

Zoltán Lomnici, Jr. recorded: the tale Ridley Jones - due to its content prohibited by the Child Protection Act - should be categorized as "not recommended for people under the age of eighteen". The constitutional lawyer also emphasized that the media provider must use effective technical solutions in order to ensure that programs displaying LGBTQ content are not accessible to minors. According to him, such a solution could be the indication of the age limit and the broadcasting of the program in a late time slot. In addition, he added, the parent is obliged to ensure the conditions necessary for the physical, intellectual, emotional and moral development of his child.

By the way, the animated cartoon, titled as an educational program for children with no age limit, follows the story of a brave and curious six-year-old girl, Ridley Jones, who, with the help of her mother and grandmother, works as a custodian of a museum where everything comes alive at night. At the same time, the children's tale that promises to be an adventure quietly seizes the opportunity to sensitize the smallest ones, because one of the main characters of the series is a non-binary bison, but there is also a mummy girl who has two fathers. Many LGBTQ people lent their voices to the creation of the animated series.

However, Ridley Jones is not the first animated cartoon series that seeks to sensitize children: according to a previous article by 888.hu, almost two hundred and sixty LGBTQ characters appear in animated children's films, and their more direct or explicit appearance has become more and more common in the last decade. According to the news portal, among the service providers, 14 LGBTQ stories were shown on Netflix, 19 on Cartoon Network, 9 on Disney Channel, and 7 on Nickelodeon.

It was also revealed that in 214 cartoons he only appeared as a recurring character, but in 22 shows the LGBTQ character was the main character.
