The European Union's right to regulate migration is outdated and not suitable for an effective fight against illegal immigration, stated the Parliamentary and Strategic State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office.

Balázs Orbán believed that new EU regulations are needed, as the current one does not help to stop migrants at the borders of the EU or to keep them outside its territory. He reminded: in 2015, great tension arose when Hungary wanted to protect its southern borders.

The legal and physical closure worked well, significantly reducing the number of migrants entering. For some time, however, more and more people have been trying again: this year, many more illegal immigrants were caught than last year or two years ago, he pointed out.

The Secretary of State emphasized: in relation to the current Polish-Belarusian situation, everyone mentions hybrid warfare, which means changing different means of exerting pressure depending on the situation.

However, in his opinion, the situation was the same in 2015-2016 on the Balkan routes. Even then, hybrid warfare was carried out against the EU countries with the cooperation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and human traffickers. Hungary is trying to protect its borders - emphasized Balázs Orbán.

He said strict control is needed in the EU, like in Australia. No one should be allowed to enter illegally, and if someone does try, they should lose their chance for asylum.

He went on to say that all Western societies are experiencing population decline. There are two solutions to the problem: supporting migration or increasing the birth rate. The Hungarian government devotes all its resources to increasing fertility, and it sees that the strategy is working, emphasized the state secretary.

He asked the question that

why does the EU only pursue rule of law procedures against right-wing, conservative governments.

Balázs Orbán called this an impossibility. He said that since 2010, their goal has been to balance the budget. The basic law also contains a provision on the limits of the state debt, he pointed out.

They are closely monitoring what measures are being taken in Austria against the coronavirus epidemic. However, the Hungarians would not accept another big shutdown, because they see that the effective weapon against the pandemic is vaccination - the state secretary opined.
