More than 70,000 people answered Hungary is on the green road! to the questions of the online environmental protection consultation - announced Zsolt Nyitrai, the Prime Minister's representative responsible for priority social affairs, at his press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.

Zsolt Nyitrai highlighted the consultation that ended at the end of last year: so many people have never expressed an opinion on an environmental issue at the same time.

The result of the consultation was also welcomed by the Secretary of State responsible for the development of the circular economy, energy and climate policy ITM Attila Steiner , it was clear from the feedback that people consider the questions asked to be important.

Explaining the answers, the state secretary said that almost 97 percent marked sustainability as an important issue. The vast majority also supports meeting the climate goals, but 81 percent only in a way that does not endanger energy security.

One of the biggest points of agreement surrounds the "polluter pays" principle, since according to more than 85 percent of the respondents, the biggest environmental polluters should bear the costs of the transition to sustainability.

67 percent would punish illegal waste dumping with a higher fine, and more than 22.6 percent call for even stricter action.

Almost 99 percent of the respondents would welcome the new redemption system for single-use bottles , and the majority of them would return paper, metal, and plastic packaging that has become redundant to the common good.

The installation of solar panels is welcomed by more than 95 percent, the planting of trees by approximately 98 percent, and the reduction of single-use plastics by almost 90 percent.

According to almost 95 percent, the environmentally friendly transformation of public transport is important, although according to a significant number of them, it is not enough in itself.

With the agreement of 87 percent of the respondents, there is also a clear need for national parks to preserve and present natural values - Attila Steiner summarized the results of the consultation.

Based on the feedback, the state secretary considers it necessary, among other things, to continue the residential solar panel tender and the green bus program, additional tree plantings, and the expansion of waste utilization. In order to achieve this, the majority of the population is willing to put in more effort and, where possible, is also open to personal participation.
