We are creating a greener, more orderly, more user-friendly park in the heart of Buda, in the XII. district, near II. and also for District I. The call for design tenders has been published. - writes Balázs Fürjes, the state secretary responsible for the development of Budapest and the capital agglomeration, on his Facebook page.
Together with the governmental Budapest Development Center, we are announcing an open landscape architecture design competition for the renewal of Városmajor. Anyone can enter the competition, and the professional jury judges the entries anonymously, without knowing the creators of the individual designs - the only thing that matters is what the design is, not who drew it!
The design competition is the first step in the renewal of Városmajor. The goal is clear: Buda's oldest park will be reborn as a green island with high-quality, well-kept green areas, a high-quality jogging track, a spacious dog run and renewed street furniture.
We work closely with Zoltán Pokorni, the mayor of the district, and the Városmajor Park Friends Association to develop the foundations and details. The chief architect and chief landscape architect of the Metropolitan Municipality also participate in the professional jury judging the plans - Budapest is our common cause!
The first public garden of Városmajor Buda, it has a serious historical past. Many Buda citizens and Buda families are attached to it, the park is part of their everyday life - today it is not worthy of this distinguished role!
As the city grew, new buildings, parked cars and industrial areas gradually engulfed the outskirts of Városmajor. The condition of the green space, playgrounds, and street furniture has deteriorated. In addition, the Major has not undergone a comprehensive renovation for several decades!
The Secretary of State stated, among other things, in bullet points:
We are expanding the greenery of the park, we are planning a continuous water surface!
We will renew the playgrounds and install new street furniture!
We are tidying up the entrances to the park, rethinking the internal paths and road network!
We're easing the traffic!
We build parks for all age groups and all needs!
With high-quality street lighting, parking attendants and a camera system, we guarantee that Városmajor will be safe even after sunset!
We are also creating a dog adventure park!
The goal is to find a good balance between the aspects of the different park users (dogs, athletes, people who want to relax). And let Városmajor be reborn in such a way that it belongs to the people of Buda, and that the people living here feel the new park is theirs. Therefore, even before the planning application, we conducted a thorough questionnaire survey, we prepared the application together with the Városmajor Park Friends Association and Mayor Pokorni's team.
We asked the opinions of park users twice in spring and summer. In the coming year, we will organize several workshops and community planning events for those who live here and are interested.
