According to Fidesz and KDNP, the new director of the Szent-Györgyi Albert Agóra in Szeged was elected irregularly, so they requested the revocation of the decision at an extraordinary general meeting on Friday, but the board did not have a quorum.

Péter Tápai, the leader of the Fidesz parliamentary faction in Szeged, said that he and his fellow deputies initiated the request that the general assembly withdraw the decision on the application for the leadership position of the public cultural institution and conduct a new procedure. There is sufficient time for this, as the mandate of the current director, Hedvig Orbán, only expires on February 15.

The politician explained that, according to their point of view, the general assembly declared a person who was legally no longer a candidate the winner of the tender.

Zalán Haág (KDNP), the chairman of the culture committee of the general assembly, emphasized that Hedvig Orbán managed the Szent-Györgyi Albert Agóra with a suitable education and impeccable professional work for a long time. The general assembly elected him by consensus to head the institution ten years ago and five years ago. In December, however, the majority of the assembly appointed a person with no professional experience or local knowledge as the head of the cultural institution, which now also includes the city's cultural centers.

Katalin Chovanecz (Fidesz) said that the election of the new head of Agóra is full of procedural irregularities: Fidesz disputes that Csaba Balázs, who was elected to the post, has the appropriate education and lacks professional experience, because as the director of the Siklós Castle Theater he ran a performing arts and not a public culture institution.

Clerk Éva Martonosi explained in her comments to the motion of the representatives of the Fidesz-KDNP that the application for the directorship of Szent-Györgyi Albert Agóra was judged in accordance with the legal requirements. The application of Csaba Balázs was valid, he was heard by the professional evaluation committee on time, and the general assembly selected him for the position from among those who submitted valid applications.
