The ecumenical week of prayer begins today and lasts until January 23. The material for the week of prayer was compiled by the Council of the Churches of the Middle East, the central word of which reads: "We saw his star in the east, and we have come to worship him" (Mt 2:2).

The national opening service will take place on Sunday at 18:00 at the Deák Square Lutheran Church. Cardinal Péter Erdő delivers a homily, and Reformed bishop Zoltán Balog, the president of the Synod, preaches the word. The leaders of the member churches of the MEÖT (Ecumenical Council of Hungarian Churches) serve in the liturgy.

Based on the proposal of the MEÖT presidency, the ecumenical week of prayer can be held taking into account the current epidemiological measures of the member churches.
