Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the president of Fidesz, will participate in the meeting of European conservative party leaders in Madrid at the end of the week. The host of the meeting is the Spanish right-wing party VOX, which is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) party family. In addition to Viktor Orbán, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, whose party Law and Justice (PiS) is also a member of the ECR, also accepted his invitation. The Spanish El Independiente also quoted the statements of Santiago Abascal, the president of VOX, in which he spoke about the perfect harmony with the Polish and Hungarian leaders in matters of border protection, family policy and the protection of sovereign nations.
The newspaper understands that, among others, Giorgia Meloni, the president of the Italian Brothers (FdI) and the ECR party family, Martin Helme, the leader of the Estonian Conservative People's Party (EKRE), and Marine Le Pen, the president of the French National Consolidation (RN) and presidential candidate. Incidentally, Helme and Le Pen's party is a member of the Identity and Democracy (ID) party family.
The meeting in Madrid at the weekend is another step towards the "European renaissance", i.e. the closer cooperation of conservative, sovereignist parties, which was announced in Budapest last April by Orbán and Morawiecki together with the president of the Italian League, Matteo Salvini. The common goal is to create a new, democratic right-wing alliance.
Another step in this direction was taken last July, when sixteen European parties signed a joint resolution on the future of Europe. "This declaration is about the future of the EU, about protecting nations, families and traditional Christian values," Viktor Orbán said when he announced that Fidesz also supported the call initiated by PiS president Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
Santiago Abascal visited Budapest and Warsaw several times in the past year. Viktor Orbán received Marine Le Pen for the first time last October, and at the beginning of December, the thirteen parties participating in the Warsaw summit - including Fidesz, RN, PiS and VOX - agreed to strengthen their cooperation. This includes the fact that the parties of the forming right-wing alliance will for the time being coordinate during the important European Parliament votes and consult each other regularly.
