The words of Mayor Gergely Karácsony, who, talking about the handing over of the House of Hungarian Music, put the holy water tank in an unworthy and blasphemous context in a radio interview, protested the Association of Christian Intellectuals today in a statement published on their portal.

Water has been an important symbol of Christians since the baptism of Jesus Christ in Jordan, which is why the mayor offended many with his analogy.

As the Text of the Christian Intellectuals emphasized several times: we want to live in a country and a capital where everyone, including politicians and city leaders, accepts and shows respect for other people in their actions and words. This also applies to religious and religious beliefs and their symbols. We are saddened to see that while the rights of certain minorities receive special protection, mockery of certain communities, mostly Christians, is allowed. A Christian person respects the beliefs of others, but at the same time expects that no one insults everything that is sacred and valuable to him.

Even in a secularized society, the mayor cannot afford to make hurtful comparisons, moreover, a politician who is proud of his liberal spirit puts his own credibility and competence into question. Voting citizens rightly expect the mayor to be thoughtful in his words and thoughtful in his statements.

On behalf of all good-natured people who respect the faith and religion of others, we call on Gergely Karácsony to apologize!

2022 Plus: the background to the case is that the mayor said in an earlier interview on Klub radio: "Building in a park is like peeing in the holy water container in a church, so it fits in after all, it just destroys what we are there for." Karácsony has not apologized for this statement to this day!
