There is a good chance that NATO will install several elements of the DIANA defense innovation program in Hungary, the final decisions can be made by the summer at the latest, the Minister of Innovation and Technology told Világgazdaság. László Palkovics stated in the interview published on Wednesday that DIANA is built on three levels.

The diplomatic headquarters responsible for the implementation, the accelerator tasks helping the progress of the various concepts, as well as the environment enabling the testing of the individual technologies, would be installed in one of the NATO member states.

He added that although many countries applied,

it is significant that David van Weel, the Deputy Secretary General responsible for innovation, is among the first to arrive in Hungary for a two-day field trip to new types of security challenges.

In response to the question of the practical significance of having a Hungarian base for the DIANA program, László Palkovics said that in terms of the headquarters, it is diplomatic, but the accelerator and test activities also have concrete scientific and economic benefits, since it starts a process that other NATO companies from member states will come to Budapest or Zalaegerszeg.

The domestic actors have excellent opportunities in the international field, because of the eight areas preferred by NATO, data-driven technology, artificial intelligence, autonomous devices and super-computing technology are dealt with at a particularly high level in Hungary, explained the minister.

The aim of rebuilding the Hungarian military industry is to strengthen Hungary's security, sovereignty and European defense capabilities. We are spending huge sums, HUF 400-500 billion, on building the Hungarian military industry. In addition to all this, the revival of the military industry contributes to the country's economic, industrial-technical development, innovation and job creation, the minister indicated.

2022Plusz: It can be seen that the left-wing sneer that Hungary would turn its back on NATO because of the Russians now also falls into the category of usual slander. It doesn't look like NATO is waiting for the Gyurcsánys to protect them from the "disloyal" Orbán. In fact! It seems that they count on us and the Hungarian government as a stable and predictable partner in the long term!
