A large-scale national media campaign is being launched with the cooperation of researchers and civilians, members of a team made up of employees of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH) Astronomy and Earth Science Research Center (CSFK), the University of Szeged (SZTE) and the Hungarian Astronomical Association (MCSE) to popularize the natural sciences - reads the ELKH in a statement delivered to MTI on Monday.
As they write, as part of the project called "Under the stars - national natural science awareness media campaign" starting in March, new video content will be available every week, which will present the latest research results, astronomy demonstration sites operating in the country and current celestial phenomena in an easy-to-understand and entertaining format. The organizers of the project include both active researchers and art-loving astronomers, which facilitates the effective achievement of professional and social goals.
"The fantastic advantage of astronomy is that its latest results are widely understood by few people, but at the same time, its scientific questions are of interest to almost everyone. Black holes, exoplanets, life in the universe, the present and future of Mars: just a few of the countless evergreen topics that arouse the interest of the general public," the announcement quotes Széchenyi Prize-winning astronomer László Kiss, director general of the CSFK and also the professional leader of the program.
According to the information, the event called A week under the stars is being organized for the third time, as part of which, between August 5 and 14, more than fifty locations across the country welcome those interested with astronomy demonstrations, promoting the beauty of nature and science and the experience of exploring the sky together .
In the educational project, the presentation of domestic amateur astronomy will be given great emphasis through the report program "Vándorcsillagok". One of the priority target groups of the program is the amateur astronomers and astrophotographers who are actively involved in observational astronomy, while the events and content created as part of the project appeal to the widest possible public, the announcement reminds.
The presentation of the activities of amateur astronomy groups has a significant mobilizing power, therefore, among other things, regular and public telescope demonstrations will be organized, and programs using the method of community scientific observation (Citizen Science) will be launched. In addition, a special series of reports will be prepared with the veterans of domestic astronomy, from which the history of the development of the profession and the community from the beginning of the 1950s to the present day will be known.
The project entitled "Under the stars - a national natural science awareness media campaign" is being implemented with the funding of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH) as part of the Mecenátura 2021 call, the summary states.
