The fine factory has started, the number of car wheel clamps in Budapest has increased fivefold. It was a long time ago that so many drivers were fined in Budapest, as last year. Hundreds of millions of forints were imposed only in on-the-spot fines.

In Budapest, the number of various penalties imposed on drivers who broke the rules rose close to a record in 2021, according to the statistics published by the Metropolitan Police Directorate (FÖRI) at the request of Vezess.hu. Last year, 13,289 on-the-spot fines (thb) and 2,950 on-the-spot fines were imposed by public spaces in Budapest, and motorists were reported 1,886 times.

In three years, fines imposed in the operator's absence have almost tripled, and simple on-site fines have doubled. From these two types of punishment alone, punishments in the amount of almost HUF 300 million were handed out in the capital last year.

In the first year of the pandemic, they were used even less often, but in 2021, metal traps were clicked on the left front wheels of passenger cars in quantities reminiscent of the first half of the 2010s: last year, the number of wheel clamps increased fivefold. From a percentage point of view, the removal of cars found for violations has also increased significantly: cars are mostly taken from places reserved for the disabled.

Last year, FÖRI collected HUF 80 million from the dismantling of wheel clamps and the return of transported cars.
