The government stands by the gas price freeze to protect Hungarian families, but is ready to negotiate with the representatives of small gas stations, said the Secretary of State responsible for economic strategy and regulation of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM), after consultations with the National Association of Entrepreneurs (VOSZ) and Mobil Petrol on Monday in the morning.

László György said at the press conference: because of the runaway energy prices, fuel prices are rising all over Europe, and extraordinary measures are needed in an emergency situation. The government is - as it has been until now - on the side of Hungarian families, which is why they introduced the gasoline price cap, the interest rate cap, the food price cap and maintain the utility reduction, he added.

At the same time, the government is open to listening to the viewpoints of small businesses, which is why a meeting was held on Monday morning with VOSZ and Mobil Petrol, which operates small gas stations in most settlements of all sizes, he added.

He put it like this:

they conducted forward-looking negotiations, agreed that the situation would be dealt with constructively, and their common goal was to keep inflation under control and protect Hungarian families against rising prices from abroad.

The state secretary reminded: in line with its utility reduction policy, last November the government fixed the price of 95 gasoline and diesel at a maximum level of HUF 480 per liter, for the first time for three months.

Without the intervention, due to the world market processes, today we could fill up at gas stations at a price well over HUF 500 - László György pointed out, highlighting: thanks to the measure, the Hungarian people pay one of the lowest prices for fuel in Europe, just like gas and electricity.

The gasoline price freeze was recently extended for another three months, so it will remain in effect until May 15, providing additional protection to families who use cars, he said.

György László also spoke about the fact that the representative of Mobil Petrol indicated at the meeting that the well network does not want to participate " in the car demonstration and signing the petition, since their goal is not to make the situation worse, but to solve it constructively ". He added:

the company's representatives also offered to represent the aspects of other small businesses.

The state secretary predicted that the negotiations will continue with the participation of VOSZ and the Mobil Petrol gas station network " in the constructive way in which we have been able to agree on all important issues in the past two years since the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis ".

In response to a question, László György said that they had not yet received an indication that the filling station would suspend its activities, and to MTI's question, he confirmed the ministry's announcement last week: there was no need to designate a temporarily registered service provider to operate a gas station due to a shutdown.

He also told MTI's question: constructive proposals from the representatives of the small gas stations are expected in the second half of the week.
