According to the activists of the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service working on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, many refugees from Ukraine are afraid to accept the help of the Hungarian authorities and charity services.
As Judit Petró, the professional coordinator of the charity service, who helps refugees at the Beregsurány border crossing, told MTI on Saturday: the news spread in Ukraine that those who were found to have fled and accepted the help of foreign authorities would be imprisoned upon their return. .
It happens that mothers pushing a pram or carrying a child in their arms pass by the charity tent without saying a word and turn their heads when they are offered help.
Otherwise, the refugees arrive in waves, which means that they are collected and let through in larger groups, he explained.
According to his announcement, the charity service set up its warehouse in Gelénes. Donations continue to arrive there, and from there, the food and the equipment needed to care for the refugees are transported to the border stations and municipalities.
In Beregsurány, the local government has set up temporary accommodation in the local castle building, and they are organizing the onward transport of people.
Gyuláné Unoka, an activist of the local government, said that the accommodation and transport offers are kept in a table.
They receive so many offers that they can deliver people from Ukraine to relatives and acquaintances in Hungary anywhere in the country.
There are heaps of food in the castle building, so they can provide for everyone - the MTI correspondent experienced on the spot.
According to the statement of the National Directorate General of Immigration, since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, ten applications for recognition as asylum have been registered. The overwhelming majority of those who entered the territory of Hungary were Hungarian citizens from across the border or had the conditions for legal residence in Hungary, so there was no reason to submit their application for recognition.
It is possible to submit an application for recognition as an asylum seeker in person at any of the established collection points 24 hours a day, or at any customer service office of the National Directorate General of Immigration during customer reception hours. After registration, the applicants will be accommodated in provided accommodation, where they will be fully cared for, the announcement concludes.
