The state does its duty when it supports the institutions that educate the next generations - declared the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office at the handover of the new sports hall of the Szent Imre Cisterci High School in Buda, built with HUF 6.5 billion government support, on Friday.
Gergely Gulyás emphasized: the development of such a high-quality educational institution as the Cistercian Gymnasium in Buda is in the interest of the country, Budapest, as well as the school itself.
The minister thanked the Cistercian order that, by operating the school, they contribute to the long-term existence of people who "think in terms of the nation", for whom the fate of the nation and the country is important in addition to their individual destiny.
He added: church schools have come a long way since the system change. They can be proud of the fact that the government was not able to increase the number of church-maintained schools in such a way that there would still be a greater over-enrollment in them than in the state ones.
Gergely Gulyás also spoke about: education includes daily physical training, which is why the civil government consistently insists on ensuring the conditions for daily physical education in schools.
István Simicskó, the XI. district's KDNP member of parliament talked about how the heart of Újbuda has been beautified with the new sports hall and the renovation of the Szent Imre church next to the gymnasium.
The district is proud to have such a complex of buildings, and it is also proud of the students who attend the Cistercian high school, he said, adding that according to his experience, the faith and values of young people who graduate from church schools are stable.
The faction leader of the KDNP also spoke about: sport is an important tool for education, it shapes children's character, educates them for "fair play" and sportsmanship.
"And if we bring sportsmanship from sports into our everyday lives, then we can live a more humane life," added István Simicskó.
The new building was blessed by Cistercian Father Bernát Bernát László Bérczi. In his greeting, the abbot said: "we stand here today on the ground of the courage and faith of our predecessors".
He said you had to dream big when the order was XX. At the beginning of the 20th century, in "a historical era characterized by a rupture in the sky", he started his school in Budapest, but they were driven by the belief that grace and all the necessary earthly means are given to a good cause.
He added: the abbey dreamed big even in 2017, when it started planning the new sports hall, the school's "long-standing problems" stemmed from its success, the school building, which was originally designed for 600 students and two physical education classes a week, has clearly outgrown the institution in the last 20 years. The government joined this dream, supporting the realization of the new building with a total of HUF 6.5 billion through three government decrees.
