The heart of Hungary is now beating along the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, and all of our hearts are beating together for those who are forced to flee Ukraine, the president-elect said at a press conference in Beregdaró on Thursday.

Katalin Novák, speaking about the experiences of her visit to the settlements along the border in the past four days, emphasized that "we have two armies", on the one hand, the armed forces, and on the other hand, the helpful Hungarian people who are still here, twenty-four hours a day.

"And our strongest weapon is the Hungarian heart, we need this Hungarian heart to be able to win peace, we need this Hungarian heart to be able to preserve peace here in Hungary," said the elected head of state.

Summarizing his experiences, he said that during the four days he visited twelve settlements, saw the work of six aid organizations, met with local representatives, settlement leaders and volunteers. He also talked to people who, in addition to their daily work and tasks, make hundreds of sandwiches, prepare hot meals, make bed linen, clean, or participate in helping in other ways, even at night or after working hours.

These people also put their own tasks in the background in order to be where they are most needed, emphasized Katalin Novák.

He said he also met refugees, they came from a hopeless situation to an uncertain one, they live from one day to the next, they don't know where they are going or if they will ever return to their homeland.

Most of them want to go back if they can, and it is also in our interest that there will be a Hungarian word in Transcarpathia, ten, twenty, thirty, one hundred and five hundred years from now, there will be Hungarian life in Transcarpathia - emphasized the elected head of state.

He repeated that those who want to stay in Hungary can stay as long as they want, and they will receive all the help and support they can for this.

Katalin Novák thanked those who provided help on behalf of all Hungarian people, highlighting that thanks to the donations, more than HUF 750 million in monetary donations have already been collected, and in addition, a lot of material donations, clothes and durable food are still arriving in the warehouses. He also noted that there are many people who come from the farthest corners of the country and use their free time to help the needy.

"And the feedback I received from the refugees was that they see the most beautiful face of Hungary, they thank all the Hungarian people from whom they received help that they did not even dare to expect," he said, adding that the refugees found encouragement and kind words and were warmly welcomed everywhere.

In response to a journalist's question, he said that Transcarpathian Hungarians are currently going through a particularly difficult period, many have left their homes, and unfortunately, Hungarian kindergartens and schools have also been forced to close.

It is in the interest of all of us that Hungarian-language education can continue in Transcarpathia - emphasized the president-elect, emphasizing that a lot will have to be done to ensure that Hungarian life in Transcarpathia survives in the long term and that those who remain there can survive this period.

On the question concerning the involvement of churches and local congregations, he reminded that in the first days of the war, local religious communities and settlement leaders organized the relief work. They were there from the first minute, and since then they have been doing their work with aid organizations and supporting each other, and for that they deserve thanks, added the president-elect.

2022Plusz: Perhaps even now it can be seen that the elected president of the republic will not only be the commander-in-chief of the Hungarian army, but also of Hungarian hearts! He thinks this is our main force!
