János Süli, the minister without portfolio responsible for the planning, construction and commissioning of the two new blocks of the Paks nuclear power plant, shared his thoughts on the parliamentary election and the development of Paks II with Vasarnap.hu.

The result of the election reflects, says Süli, that the Hungarians believe in us, appreciate the work done in the last four years, see the results achieved, and that we have a daily, live relationship with the voters.

It was good to see the high turnout both in the constituency and nationally, this gives a very strong mandate to the newly formed government.

Our goal was to get 60 percent of the votes, and we exceeded that - but we put a lot of work into it. We only secretly hoped that Fidesz-KDNP would get two-thirds of the vote, since the situation has become extremely complex in the past period: many uncertainty factors have appeared, from the coronavirus epidemic to the energy price explosion to the war.

We promised the voters that we would continue the work we had started.

This means the construction of the two new blocks in Paks, which - I cannot help stressing - are not affected by international sanctions.

We are waiting for the starting pistol to go off: without exception, we have submitted all license applications to the National Atomic Energy Agency, with the positive assessment of which the second phase of the project, the implementation, can begin.

As we have always said, we want to build the power plant to provide affordable electricity.

He emphasized that the "election result proves to me that it makes sense to work. Walking through the settlements during the campaign, I enjoyed the personal encouragement, it was good to see the development in the region.

In the past four years, we have also achieved significant results at the local level - just think of the Hungarian Village Program, the rural chocolate, and the subsidies for other families.
