Fidesz is the party that understands the country. In addition to those living in villages and small towns, he was also able to successfully appeal to the residents of big cities, said Péter Tölgyessy, in his program evaluating the Partizán election. The political scientist considers the opposition claim that there is no democracy in Hungary to be ridiculous, and Fidesz, in his opinion, is increasingly becoming a party of the working class.

As a guest of Partizán's election evaluation program, Péter Tölgyessy spoke to Márton Gulyás, already knowing the votes, about why he thinks the opposition lost more than expected. Analyzing the reasons, he explained: Fidesz was by far the most innovative political force.

The political scientist put it like that

"for now, this is the party that understands the country".

The Russian-Ukrainian war also affected the campaign. In this regard, Tölgyessy explained: while Viktor Orbán emphasized the importance of staying out, satisfying the security needs of the Hungarians, the opposition was saying what the Western allies were saying based on Western models.

The conversation brought up the results of the polls, which, according to him, were deliberately "cosmeticized". As an exception, he mentioned Median, which almost hit the final result: before the elections, it estimated a mandate ratio of 128:71. Tölgyessy emphasized that Péter Márki-Zay, who repeatedly hinted that Fidesz could be behind the research, was also involved in this. " It was an unheard-of anti-democratic comment made by the opposition prime minister candidate, " declared Tölgyessy, who said that " under democratic conditions, the independent press would have beaten MZP to the ground for this statement." The job of a pollster is to publish such research, " he added.

According to the political scientist, compared to 2018, Jobbik lost hundreds of thousands of voters. This crowd was missing from the alliance of opposition parties. According to the analyst, the reason for this could be that the opposition's politics "had no traction".

As he put it:

"If the opposition had been attractive, and many people had thought that this opposition was fantastic, then few right-wing voters would have fallen away. But there was no such dynamic.”

He added that a significant change in the political structure took place as the Buda and green belt districts became the opposition's strongest bases, even though the right wing had always won the parliamentary elections in these areas. He called the citizens of Buda the winners of globalization and the people of the Hungarian Silicon Valley, and drew a parallel with America: there used to be division based on material things, and the rich voted for the conservatives. Then a movement began that looks like the winners of globalization have moved to the left. A good example of this is California, where there were Republican governors during the presidency of Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and now the Democrats have a significant majority.

Tölgyessy, however, immediately added: a process in the opposite direction is also taking place in Hungary, since the ruling party has successfully addressed not only villagers and small-town residents, but also those in big cities. " Fidesz is increasingly becoming the party of the working class" - He told.

He called the opposition's claim that there is no democracy in Hungary ridiculous, since working people felt that they had more room for maneuver as consumers and as labor market participants. According to Tölgyessy, people did not think that Péter Márki-Zay would have been suitable for prime minister.

Márton Gulyás considered why Fidesz would be the party of the working class when it "distributes upwards", and did not introduce a new redistribution system apart from public work. Speaking about public work, Tölgyessy said: there is already a shortage of public workers. At the beginning, 300,000 people worked in this form, now only 80,000.
