US President Joe Biden has nominated David Pressman for the post of ambassador to Budapest, the White House announced on Friday evening. The 45-year-old diplomat is a lawyer who graduated from New York University and is connected to the American Democratic Party and Hollywood celebrities at many points. He was also the founding executive director of George and Amal Clooney's foundation, Magyar Nemzet reports.

Pressman worked as a human rights advisor to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and later assumed a role in the senior management of the Department of Homeland Security. During the presidency of Barack Obama, between 2014 and 2017, he represented his country at the UN at the level of ambassador, his assignment ended on the day of Donald Trump's inauguration. Pressman is an advocate of many human rights issues, including the equality of rights for homosexuals, and led the working group fighting for the recognition of the LGBTQ community in the US foreign affairs.

The current announcement did not come as a surprise to the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the newspaper knows that Pressman's name has been circulating for weeks among those who know our American relations well, since the diplomatic agrément was requested from Washington for his appointment from the host party. He is expected to start his work in Budapest in the coming months after his approval by the Senate.
