Robert Kaliňák, the former interior minister of Smer-SD, considers the accusations brought against him stupid and speaks of a political process. After his preliminary arrest was lifted, he said that the courts did not even deal with the proceedings against him, only with his arrest.

His defense attorney, David Lindtner , noted that the courts are bound by different deadlines for decisions about pretrial detention, so they did not have enough time to study the file itself to give an opinion on the merits of initiating criminal proceedings. If something is established in this regard, it cannot be considered authoritative, according to him.

"It's still true that it's nonsense. We will make a statement later, during the continuation of the proceedings, for now I cannot talk about the actions," said Kaliňák.

The former interior minister considers it impossible to persecute political rivals because they call their opponents tax cheats, he talks about "Stalinist exercise of law" and the danger of criminal law abuse.

Regarding the time spent in pre-trial detention, he called the work of the Penitentiary Board professional, as well as the procedure of the law enforcement agencies during his detention. According to him, the special prosecutor's office and the National Crime Agency (NAKA) torture the suspects, for example by separating them from their families.

Kaliňák stated that he will participate in the court hearing, he has no reason to flee abroad.

According to Lindter, the decision ordering pretrial detention consists of 40 pages of negligible legal side talk, and about a page and a half about the reasons for ordering pretrial detention. Lindter, on the other hand, called these also absurd. He objected, for example, to references to statements made at press conferences in 2020 and 2021 or to wiretapping at the hunting lodge. He added that the proceedings initiated against Kaliňá and Robert Fico are proceeding in a standard way, but they do not understand what connection they may have with the suspicion regarding some of the planned interrogations.

On Friday, the Supreme Court canceled the pre-trial detention of former Minister of the Interior Robert Kaliňák, but called the criminal proceedings against him well-founded in all respects. Robert Fico , president of Smer-SD, stated that the court decided to release Kaliňák because he did not see any reason for his detention.

According to Fico, the fact that Juraj Kliment, the "famous" judge, voted for Kaliňák's release also shows that his detention was absurd.

"The war continues, we will criticize this criminal government directly and without compromise, and we count on the fact that the government will organize further manipulations, frauds and abuse its power without compromise, so that they will close us down," he added.
