The Romanian man protesting against the inauguration of the statue was very surprised by the Hungarian bishop's gesture.

Maszol.ro recorded on video

The man actually demonstrated alone on the day of the Hungarian Reformed Unity, on the occasion of which a full-length statue of Gábor Bethlen was unveiled.

The portal reported that the shouting died down when Zoltán Balog approached the man (around 3:30 in the video) and gave him two kisses on the cheek. At this, the protester staggered away somewhat aimlessly, as if he had forgotten what he was actually looking for there due to the unexpected gesture.

The President of the Republic Katalin Novák was also present at the event, Maszol wrote.

2022plus update : as it turned out later, the one-man protester, who was dressed in traditional costumes, wanted to provoke the President of the Hungarian Republic. Călin Matieş, a politician from the Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD), first presented Katalin Novák with a flower and a Romanian-colored cockade, then told her: "Transylvania was a Romanian land and always will be!", the Transylvanian news portal Főtér reported about him.

Călin Matieș didn't even listen to what the Hungarian head of state said about his hope that the two peoples can live in peace in Transylvania, he got a Avram Iancu and placed it in front of the statue of Gábor Bethlen .

He blamed the mayor of Gyulafehérvár, who was present, that 150 years after the death of Avram Iancu, a statue should be erected to the hero of the Romanian nation.

According to Főtér's report, Árpád Deák depicts Gábor Bethlen, the Grand Duke of Transylvania, in such a commanding manner that it is understandable why some thought that Avram Iancu should also have a similar - if not bigger - statue in Gyulafehérvár Castle.
