As you could read on our portal today, German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck suggested that Germany would be willing to support the introduction of an embargo on Russian crude oil by the member states of the European Union without Hungary. Judit Varga, the Minister of Justice, has already responded to this, saying: "unfortunately, there are some - mostly left-wing, liberal - politicians whose understanding of European politics lacks the European values that mean cooperation based on a culture of consensus and mutual respect".

"An issue like the oil embargo, about which Hungary communicated from the first minute in the most honest and transparent way, cannot be discussed in such an arbitrary and exclusionary tone," he said. He believed that the "rules of natural science" should prevail in this matter.

"Hungary does not have seas, but the energy supply must be ensured, so we are waiting for the solution proposals first, and only then can we move on to the sanction proposals. Decisions must be made taking into account the interests of all member countries," he emphasized.

Referring to the Versailles declaration adopted by the leaders of the EU member states at the beginning of March, he said: it is only possible to move forward with the sanctions targeting Russian energy if the national capabilities of each country and the right to its own energy mix are respected.

He stated that the Hungarian government is constantly negotiating with the European Commission. The oil embargo and the European separation from Russian fossil energy carriers must be considered not only in the short term, but also in the medium and long term, he added.
