The mayor of Eger banned the faction of the governing parties from the town hall, the leader of the local Fidesz-KDNP faction announced at his press conference on Tuesday.

Sándor Oroján announced: Mayor Ádám Mirkóczki (Egysében a Várossért Egyesület) indicated on Monday that he will not provide the faction with a room to hold a press conference in the town hall in the future.

According to the faction leader, the case is a "desperate attempt by a mayor in a hopeless situation to silence opinions and representatives critical of him."

Since the regime change, nothing like this has ever happened in any settlement, he said. He added: because of what happened, they will first turn to the public, if this does not lead to results, they will take advantage of all legal remedies.

Since Ádám Mirkóczki lost his majority in the local government, he has become more and more "nervous and frustrated", although there were already signs that he would do everything possible to narrow the scope of those who expressed objections to him, said Sándor Oroján.

As an example, he mentioned that the mayor limited the right of comments of the members of the faction at the meeting of the representative body, and also "abused" his chairperson and the extraordinary powers he received due to the coronavirus epidemic.

He installed entrance gates at the town hall, for which he did not provide the deputies with a magnetic card, thereby limiting their free movement, he said.
