The economic crisis beyond inflation is also related to the war, and that is why a national defense and utility defense fund had to be created, utilities are a significantly greater burden for Hungarian families than for Western ones, which is why the fight over oil was important, Viktor Orbán said on Friday in Kossuth Radio Good morning, Hungary! in his show.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at the beginning of the conversation that he had to form a government in the last five weeks, which is why he did not give an interview to public radio. One has to think about the next year, which is why there was a three-day government meeting, he added. They concluded that in 2023, uncertainties and anxieties will also be dominant.

The most important consequence of war is that we cannot escape its consequences, including inflation.

According to the prime minister, there is wartime inflation and it will remain so next year as well. The economic crisis beyond inflation is also related to the war, and that is why a national defense and utility defense fund had to be created, he added. Utilities are a significantly greater burden for Hungarian families than for Western ones, which is why there was an important struggle over oil, he added.

Family protection is synonymous with utility protection, he declared.

Orbán announced that around 100,000 small entrepreneurs will be included in the overhead reduction.

The prime minister said that families and some SMEs can be included in the utility reduction in the current situation. According to the ministers dealing with economic affairs, the various price caps reduce inflation by 5-6 percentage points. Inflation cannot be curbed only in Hungary, as only peace can break it.

Only the Hungarian government talks about peace, and war should not be financed, he said. According to Orbán, if the gas embargo is introduced, the entire European economy will be ruined. War instigators must be suppressed, György Soros is one of the main figures of this.

The prime minister declared that there is no normal situation now, there is a war situation. I am trying to convince Brussels that there is an emergency situation and that it is mandatory to deviate from the general rules.

If there were no petrol price cap, petrol would be around HUF 700-900 per liter.

The Union should realize that there is an extraordinary situation and understand that extraordinary measures are needed in countries close to the war zone, said the prime minister.

Viktor Orbán also spoke about Hungary's tough stance on the oil embargo. Common sense prevailed, and it was possible to convince the heads of government that a completely different rule should be established for Hungary than for states with coastlines.

Very few countries are in such a stable political situation as Hungary, he added. The left would have accepted the oil embargo, they are attacking the price limiting measures, if they had won, we would be where the other countries are. The government now has fresh authority, but this is not the season of the left, he added.
