Balázs Hidvéghi , the decision-makers in Brussels are more than uncomfortable with the result of the consultation, but István Ujhelyi sees the EC as having nothing to do with it.

The European Commission (EC) has indicated that  it will not take into account  the result of the Hungarian national consultation on the Brussels sanctions against Russia, because according to them, few people filled out the questionnaire.

At the same time , they are by no means so "strict" in relation to their own research, since, for example, only five thousand filled out the questionnaire prepared in the framework of the 2022 European Year of Youth program - for which they received 8 million euros, i.e. approximately 3.2 billion forints - but the result was still considered a success away.

There is no question that the EC applies a double standard, Balázs Hidvéghi from Fidesz told Mandiner. " But I would go further: the European Commission is making a clown out of itself in front of the eyes of the whole of Europe," underlined the politician.

As he said, exactly 4,686 of the 60 million young Europeans completed the mentioned European youth consultation, and they were very proud of that in Brussels. On the other hand, is the National Consultation sent back by 1.4 million citizens, i.e. 18 percent of those entitled to vote, simply swept off the table by saying that it is not enough? he asked the question.

" Only my commissar self tells me how it is possible, in Brussels 4686 is more than 1.4 million," commented Balázs Hidvéghi.

The reality is that in the National Consultation, 97 percent of Hungarians made it ruthlessly clear that they consider the sanctions to be a mistake.

And this is more than uncomfortable for the decision-makers in Brussels," he emphasized.

According to MSZP's István Ujhelyi, however, it is absolutely right that the European Commission does not deal with the results of the national consultation. According to István Ujhelyi, everyone knows that this was not a national consultation, but a campaign of lies conducted with billions of public funds, the results of which the European Commission has nothing to do with.

Moreover, the questionnaire is also absurd, since the government campaigned against the sanctions while voting for them, said the politician, adding that the European Union uses questionnaires like the one it did in connection with the European Year of Youth to collect many opinions.
