The biggest corruption scandal in Brussels politics is currently unfolding - a Fidesz EP representative spoke about this on Kossuth Radio. According to Balázs Hidvéghi, systemic corruption threatens the operation of the entire European Union. In the meantime, Politico wrote that one of the first suspects in the Brussels corruption scandal, the Italian Niccolo Figa-Talamanca, had already been released by the Belgian authorities.

Millions of euros smuggled out in suitcases, with mafia methods, a corruption network operated like a factory. Almost every day there is a new story in the Brussels corruption scandal. Most recently, the immunity of two MEPs was suspended on Thursday.

Socialist politician Andrea Cozzolino is suspected by the Belgian police of accepting bribes from Qatar, just like the former left-wing vice-president of the EP, Eva Kaili. In return, he lobbied for decisions favorable to the Gulf state in the European Parliament. The suspect denies this.

The other representative involved is Marc Tarabella. The Belgian left-wing politician was a member and vice-chairman of the European Parliament delegation traveling to Qatar and the countries of the Arabian Peninsula. He resigned from his post after the case broke out.

"A change of era is needed!" - this is what the Fidesz EP representative said in Kossuth Rádió's Vasárnapi Újság program.  Balázs Hidvéghi  put it this way: because of the scandal, there is an attempt at denial on the European left, and they are talking about the fact that this is only the specific case of a few individuals, when in fact it is an institutional practice that manipulates the entire operation.

"This scandal is the biggest corruption scandal in the history of the European Parliament and, in a broader sense, of Brussels politics. Here, another country of origin, Morocco, emerges, additional characters emerge, and we don't see the end of the story yet, do we? the Belgian prosecutor's office and police continue the interrogations. It can be seen that it is an extensive, long-standing system of corruption. I think that trust in the entire institutional system has wavered in light of these," said Balázs Hidvéghi.

Meanwhile, one of the first suspects in the Brussels corruption scandal, the Italian Niccolo Figa-Talamanca, was released by the Belgian authorities. According to Politico, the secretary general of the non-governmental organization "There is no peace without truth" was previously supported by the European Commission with millions of euros. However, after the scandal broke out, the payment of almost one and a half million euros was suspended.

Politico stated that it is not known under what conditions the lobbyist was released.
