Ukraine's legislature on Sunday banned Russian artists from performing in public, playing their music in public or in the media, and importing, distributing and publishing books and press products from Russia, Belarus and "regions not under the control of the Kyiv leadership."

Jariszlav Zseleznyak, a member of the Hang party faction, announced on his Telegram page that the relevant legislation was adopted by the upper house of the legislature with a two-thirds majority.

According to the rationale of the legislation on the ban on Russian music

"the music of the aggressor state can create separatist feelings among the population".

In addition, Russian music can make the adoption of Russian identity more attractive, which serves to weaken the Ukrainian state.

In addition, Russian artists who have publicly condemned the Russian operation against Ukraine, as well as Russians who have acquired Ukrainian citizenship and no longer have Russian citizenship, are exceptions.

By the way, Russian musicians are automatically blacklisted, so the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) will compile a separate list of those who will not be subject to the ban.

News agencies recalled that books and press products imported from Russia have been censored in Ukraine since 2016.

In addition, the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN announced that they are currently increasing the proportion of Ukrainian-language music in radio programs from 35 to 40 percent, and the proportion of Ukrainian-language television programs to 75 percent, with particular attention to news, analytical and entertainment programs.
