The mayor received the Ukrainian ambassador at the City Hall and assured him of his support.
The mayor reported on his social media page that he received the Ukrainian ambassador, Lyubov Vasilivna Nepop, at the City Hall. Karácsony also said that he expressed his gratitude "to the Ukrainian people, who heroically defend not only their homeland, but also European freedom and democracy" . He then went on to say that
"the capital supports the admission of Ukraine to the European Union,
we hope that the European Council will also give its nod to membership," added the mayor.
Budapest continues to welcome those fleeing the war
Karácsony also mentioned that he told the ambassador, "Budapest is still ready to receive Ukrainians fleeing the war" .
"We have free space, we will do everything to make you feel at home.
And if Ukraine deems it so, we will be happy to help the refugees to return," the city manager explained. Gergely Karácsony concluded the post by saying that on the evening of June 23, they will "express their solidarity and support to the Ukrainian people" .
