Kristóf Milák won the final of the 200-meter butterfly with a spectacular performance, a new world record of 1 minute 50.34 seconds, early on Tuesday evening, on the fourth day of the World Swimming Championships taking place in the Duna Arena. Tamás Kenderesi got a little tired at the end, he took sixth place.

Defending his title, Kristóf Milák won a gold medal with a world record in the 200-meter butterfly at the World Aquatic Championships in Budapest on Tuesday, in which another Hungarian, Tamás Kenderesi, finished in sixth place.

The 22-year-old Hungarian competitor, the Olympic champion, world record holder and European champion in the event improved his 2019 Gwangju record (1:50.73) and crossed the finish line with a time of 1:50.34 minutes, while Kenderesi finished with a time of 1:55.20 minutes sixth.

Before the World Cup, there were few numbers whose gold medals could have been awarded almost in advance, but the men's 200-meter butterfly was like that, and the Honvéd's classic proved once again that he is far ahead of his rivals.

Milák apparently didn't exert himself in Monday's preliminaries, but he was still half a second faster than his nearest opponent, and then in the evening's semi-finals, he put on a show of strength, with the ninth best swim of all time (1:52.39) and earned the best 4 in Tuesday's final. track.

Kenderesi, who exploded with a bronze medal in this event at the Rio Olympics in 2016, made it to the next stage thanks to his fantastic time in both of his swims on Monday, his last fifty meters of 29.05 in the semi-finals being particularly memorable.

The finale on Tuesday was packed to capacity in the Duna Arena

Milák dominated the field from the very first moment, at the first round he was almost half a second better than the world record, and the difference only increased compared to the clock. In the end, he only competed with the digital line in the last meters and eventually won.

Contrary to his habit in Kenderesi, he started stronger this time, but was unable to make his usual pace and finished sixth.

"They said quite rightly that I should start faster, but I have to find the golden mean, to swim a start from which I can still recover for the last fifty meters. Two months ago, I was still like, there's no point in starting this World Championship, but compared to that, yesterday I swam my best this year, which I could have improved if I used a different tactic. However, I felt I had to try this, I thought I needed a stronger start to kick the ball," Kenderesi said in the mixed zone.

At the Hungarian competition, Milák, who brought the Hungarian delegation to the first podium, won the 33rd large pool world championship gold in the history of Hungarian swimming.
