About 3,000 employers have so far indicated their need for the vacation employment of about 14,000 university and high school students in the wage support program. Based on the 2,000 contracts signed so far, more than 8,000 students can start working even from today. Thanks to the tax exemption introduced this year, people under the age of 25 can keep more of the money earned in the program until the end of August than ever before, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) on Friday morning.

In the Summer Student Work Program, which has been running since 2013, the government has already supported more than 242,000 pupils and students with a total of almost HUF 24 billion in previous years. Young people have been able to register for this year's call since mid-June. Interest picked up considerably at the end of the month, with around two thousand people signing up every day this week.

Students between the ages of 16-25, full-time students, who are not currently employed, and who do not have a business relationship can participate in the program. Municipalities and businesses operating in agriculture, tourism, and hospitality can apply for support for their employment.

Local authorities are reimbursed in full for up to 6 hours of daily employment for a period of up to two months. At companies, the program takes over three-quarters of the wage for a maximum of 8 hours of work per day.

The majority of employer applications came from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, but more than a thousand young people would be hired for summer work in Baranya, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád and Hajdú-Bihar as well.

Four out of five requests are about municipal employment. The vast majority of businesses look to tourism and hospitality for smiling helpers to serve the increased traffic during the summer season. District offices continuously send students to workplaces and provide wage subsidies to employers. Details of the Summer Student Work Program until the end of August www.munka.hu .

Zsolt Kutnyánszky , the State Secretary responsible for industry and the labor market at the Ministry of Technology and Industry, said: "one of the most important achievements we have achieved together with the Hungarian people in building a work-based economy is that we reduced unemployment to a third of the 2010 level.

The Hungarian figure is about half of the EU average, and is among the lowest in Europe. The employment situation of career starters also improved to the same extent, their unemployment rate dropped from thirty to ten percent. The social security exemption introduced at the beginning of the year can further stimulate the employment of those under 25.

The popular Summer Student Work program provides useful practical experience for permanent employment. In view of the massive interest, this year's call for tenders will increase the initial amount of HUF two billion to almost one and a half times, and the Ministry of Technology and Industry will increase it by another HUF one billion."
