Scouting defined my faith until I was twenty years old, and then through the work of God, my Christianity began to influence my scouting. I went to religious education and reformed camps, but this is where I understood what faith means, this is where it became a reality - confesses György Csortán-Szilágyi, better known as Csoszi, who has been the national executive president of the Hungarian Scout Association since May. Reformatus Lapja interviewed him.

"Csoszi" told me: "I must have been eight years old when my grandfather first told me about his scouting experiences. In the 1990s, he worked as an old scout in Cluj-Napoca, and his stories enchanted me. I was ten years old when my mother took me to scouting for the first time. I went through almost every step of scouting, I was a cub scout, a scout, a guard leader, a rover, an assistant officer, a troop leader.

Leadership is primarily an example, and this is the first thing we teach in our training camps. We do not necessarily want to direct the young people, but to show them an example of how to live and how to fulfill their duties that they owe to God, their country and their fellow men. The most important thing is to take responsibility, commit to your community and be enthusiastic about Scouting. Creativity and other skills can be acquired over time.

With our trainings, we want to provide our managers with an experience from which they will experience: they can stand their ground in any unexpected situation in life. If a storm breaks out in the camp, the guard leader cannot panic, because he has to protect the children entrusted to him. These trainings are really great tests, I also had moments when I was at a dead end, but some intangible heavenly force overcame me. I experienced that if I pray to the Lord, he listens and helps me in that deep discouragement and exhaustion, it became a lifelong God experience for me.

I thought a lot about whether to apply for the position of national executive president. I prayed, I tried to talk about this possibility with people who could help.

I feel that God has called me to this service, so I can do well as a volunteer, since Scouting is a voluntary organization. In civilian life, I work as a software development engineer.

Scouting defined my faith until I was twenty, but after a turning point, my Christianity began to influence my scouting. I went to religious education, I was confirmed, I didn't meet God's Word for the first time in the guardhouse, but here I understood what everything I had learned about God meant in everyday life. That's when it became a reality. Today, I am not only a member of the King Szent László scout team No. 1026, but also of the Százhalombatta Reformed Parish.

Recently, the association has undergone several organizational screenings, based on their results we can see where the newly elected national presidency should go. I will be responsible for the operation of the organizational side, including the support of scout districts, national level committees and the employees of the association. It is my responsibility to ensure that we comply with the legal requirements as a registered organization. I do this with the conviction that the face of the Lord goes before me in the service, God has called me to it.
