Due to unacceptable statements by an Estonian politician criticizing Hungary, the Estonian ambassador to Budapest was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (KKM).
Tamás Menczer, the State Secretary responsible for bilateral relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that he had informed the Estonian ambassador about the Hungarian position on the war and called the statements criticizing Hungary and the Hungarian government "baseless and false" unacceptable.
Tamás Menczer indicated that peace is at the center of the Hungarian position regarding the war. He stated that peace is the only solution to physical threats, economic challenges, and the solution to the economic and energy crisis. Tamás Menczer also informed the Estonian ambassador that Hungary is currently carrying out the largest humanitarian operation in its history in relation to Ukraine. He explained: Hungary has already taken in about one million refugees, and those who stay here are helped to find work and send their children to school.
The Hungarian government is ready to rebuild a hospital and a school in Ukraine, and they are constantly delivering humanitarian aid to the country."
he stated.
Tamás Menczer stated that Hungary stands by Ukraine and supports Ukraine's territorial sovereignty and integrity. He added that he finds criticism from the politicians of a country whose airspace is protected by Hungarian soldiers and Hungarian aircraft to be strange, since Hungary has been participating in the protection of Estonia's airspace for many times.
Currently, the Hungarian Armed Forces are serving with four Gripen aircraft and fifty soldiers, so Hungarian soldiers are working for the security of Estonia. We do not expect unfounded and false criticisms in return"
