A federal court in North Carolina has reinstated the state's abortion ban.

The law, which will become law, prohibits the termination of pregnancy after the 20th week, except in medical emergencies.

Judge William Osteen announced that he decided to restore the law prohibiting abortion after the federal Supreme Court referred the regulation of abortion to the states in June.

The state's Republican representatives sent a public letter in late July to a federal judge to reinstate the ban after the state's attorney general, who is a Democrat, rejected their motion and referred the decision to judicial jurisdiction.
