Hundreds of millions may have come illegally to the movement of Péter Márki-Zay, the failed prime ministerial candidate of the left. The mayor of Hódmezővásárhely recently testified that even after this year's election campaign, his movement received support from an American organization linked to György Soros. According to István Hollik, Fidesz's communications director, the left has once again deceived the people. Constitutional lawyer Zoltán Lomnici Jr. believes that foreign money, which is prohibited from the point of view of party financing, entered the machinery of the left-wing campaign.

Even in June, support of hundreds of millions of forints came from America to the Everyone's Hungary Movement from a foundation - Péter Márki-Zay, the failed left-wing prime minister candidate, revealed in the Magyar Hang podcast.

He claimed that because of this, he could not yet disclose the full campaign accounts.

Several of Márki-Zay's former allies previously failed to account for the donations. According to their suspicion, the unused money was simply kept by the movement.

Márki-Zay responded by saying that every HUF was and will be used to replace Viktor Orbán.

The failed left-wing candidate claimed that the support came from an American foundation called Action for Democracy, which was established right before the Hungarian election and whose task was to influence the outcome of the vote.

Márki-Zay did not unequivocally deny that György Soros supported him, he only said that he did not believe that. The executive director of the American organization is Dávid Korányi, who lives in New York, was Bajnai's chief advisor before 2010, and currently organizes the international relations of Gergely Karácsony, and made headlines in the spring with his adventurous lifestyle. In addition to him, the foundation's leaders include several politicians connected to the international left.

István Hollik, the communications director of Fidesz, told our newspaper that this is another case in which Péter Márki-Zay and the entire left were caught lying. According to him

the case also raises legal concerns, because a party cannot be financed from abroad.

He added that the Márki-Zays "abused the right" when they received the money from abroad on the account of an association. The fact that the organization that transferred hundreds of millions of forints to Márki-Zay is tied to György Soros is just icing on the cake, he added. He believed that the financial resources provided to the organization of the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely are classified as illegal campaign financing. He emphasized: Márki-Zay cheated the Hungarian people, including his own voters, because he was under foreign influence, and the donors "used to ask for something" for this money. The communications director finally asked the question: "what did György Soros ask for the hundreds of millions of forints?"

Constitutional lawyer Zoltán Lomnici Jr., Századvég's legal expert, explained to our newspaper that according to Hungarian law, no party can accept anonymous donations or financial contributions from foreign organizations and natural persons who are not Hungarian citizens.

The same underlying legal protection does not exist in the case of the association, but at the same time, the prosecutor's office can investigate economic and financial aspects as part of its legality supervision powers, he added. He reminded that in January 2014 the Parliament significantly tightened the regulation of prohibited subsidies. The expert also touched on the fact that in 2018 DK and Jobbik used illegal funding for campaign financing, and if something similar happened to any left-wing party in 2022, it would be the subject of an official investigation. According to him, it is already certain that foreign money prohibited from the point of view of party financing has entered the machinery of the left-wing campaign, therefore the left can count on serious economic and political consequences if abuses are discovered.
