Swedish Social Democratic Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson's recent plan to separate electricity prices from natural gas prices is strikingly similar to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's proposal, reports the Swedish daily Nyheter Idag.

He stole a proposal from the man whom, by the way, he used to compare to Satan himself," the paper writes. Andersson held a press conference on Friday where he explained that he was leaving the Swedish election campaign to devote himself to European politics, trying to build a broad coalition in the EU for lower electricity prices.

“Russia is waging an energy war against Europe and we need to take back control. The decoupling of electricity prices and gas prices creates a completely new line of defence," says Andersson.

At the same time, the Swedish press argues that the proposal is nothing new, Viktor Orbán already announced this plan in April this year. The Hungarian Prime Minister then proposed several measures to deal with the energy crisis, including delinking the price of electricity from the price of gas.
