The current decision is disappointing for the left - drew attention to the European Commission's decision on EU subsidies for Hungary on Sunday, jr. Zoltán Lomnici. According to the information provided by the constitutional lawyer to the Hungarian Nation, while the suspension of up to 70 percent of the 22.5 billion euros worth of cohesion funds earmarked for Hungary was realistic, based on the previous expectations, primarily advocated by the European and Hungarian left , the EU's financial commissioner spoke of withholding one-third of the total amount, and less than one-fifth of the relevant funds in relation to cohesion funds.

It is also positive that the payments for 2014-2020 are ongoing, this affects nearly eight billion euros, and a large part of the 38 billion euros of EU cohesion payments for 2021-2027 - for example, agricultural resources - can arrive unimpeded. The dispute concerns the recovery fund, on which, according to expectations, another decision is expected this year, and Hungary may even end the negotiations with previously unforecasted success.

- he pointed to it. However, according to Századvég's legal expert, it is important to emphasize that the withholding of catch-up resources due to the member states either in Poland or Hungary does not serve the trust between Brussels and the member states and does not help in the least to deepen integration.

"In general, it can be stated that the guardianship of the rule of law, the raising of previously closed controversial issues again and again, the suppression of national sovereignty aspirations in an octopus-like manner is not only an open attack on the second paragraph of Article 4 of the Lisbon Treaty, i.e. the "mutual respect clause", but also openly opposes the spirit of the entire "acquis communautaire" (community acquis), the basic principle of community based on the common constitutional traditions of the member states, on the basis of which the suspension of not a single cent of EU funds can actually be justified"

- he underlined.

As to whether it is possible to permanently withdraw EU funds, the constitutional lawyer said: it is not impossible, but he rules it out because Western European companies are also doing well in terms of catch-up funds sent to the region. Of course, we must also not forget that the rejection of the child protection law, illegal uncontrolled migration, and the faulty and harmful Brussels sanctions will continue to be red flags in the eyes of Brussels.

- he added.
