"Something was irreparably broken," said the MSZP EP representative in his farewell letter.

"A difficult farewell" - this is how the MSZP EP representative began his usual Sunday letter, who then explained in several points on his social media page why he was leaving the party.

"Something is irreparably broken. I never thought it would be like this. That a broken relationship can cause so many wounds not only on me, but certainly on the body of my community as well.

I am now writing these lines after a long time of tearing, internal labor and grief work".
István Ujhelyi explained his decision.

"The MSZP was my second family for almost two-thirds of my life"

"Something is irreparably broken. I tried to exist as a fakir on the shards, but it just doesn't work anymore. After sixteen hundred and twenty-three days, I am saying goodbye to the Hungarian Socialist Party. I tried to give back to this community at least as much as I received from it in the past decades - I think I succeeded. I joined the MSZP at the age of eighteen, it was my second family for two-thirds of my life , the opposition politician recalled.

After that, he thanked the members and voters of the party, to whom he owes his political career and many experiences.

“I will never forget all this, how could I. I'm not saying goodbye to them either, but to the mechanisms of today's MSZP, its blinding futurelessness," Ujhelyi pointed out.

He then stated:

"My conscience is clear because I haven't been changed"

"Rebirth built on the foundations of Gyula Horn is risky"

"I have tried to shake up our party community on more than one occasion in recent years, after the most recent shocking electoral defeat, I outlined our own situation with ruthless honesty and took on the risky, but - I still maintain - the only chance" work of rebirth built on the foundations of Gyula Horn, he listed .

“Was I wrong to hold a mirror up to ourselves with raw honesty? May. But I did not hurt our social worker supporters or the membership, but the interests of our professional leaders. (...) But in the end I had to see it and accept it: I couldn't break through the wall of internal petrification with it," the politician pointed out.

Ujhelyi apologized to those who are now disappointed by his decision.

"I extend my hand of friendship to them, asking for their understanding. We still have a long life to carry personal grievances.

Our common struggle for a free, democratic, European Hungary still awaits us as a team"
he said.
"Even after that, I will ring the bells steadfastly"

He concluded his thoughts by saying "he will not give up the fight" . (...) "I am a politician. I have goals, plans, faith and strength to shape the destiny of our common country," he looked into the future.

At the end of his post, he emphasized that "this is an unusual Sunday open letter. He is the only one in line . As I have every week since 2014, I will continue to ring the bells unwaveringly. Because it is needed ”.

A rearrangement can be observed on the left

As previously written by mandiner.hu , a reorganization can be observed in the opposition field. In recent years, Tibor Szanyi, László Botka, László Kiss, Sándor Szaniszló, Gyula Molnár and László Szakács left the MSZP. Several of them joined DK later.
