The taxi driver who locked a suicide bomber armed with a bomb in his car on Sunday night to prevent a huge disaster saved the lives of dozens of people. Because of his heroism, his car was completely destroyed in the explosion.

David Perry, the taxi driver who locked a suspicious passenger in his car on Sunday after noticing an explosive vest strapped on him, has been hailed as a hero. With this, the taxi driver prevented a pre-planned terrorist attack planned for the city event.

As hirado.hu previously wrote, three people were detained in Liverpool on Sunday evening after a car exploded in the parking lot of a local hospital. One person was killed and another injured in the detonation.

The taxi driver was only slightly injured and was released from the hospital on Sunday evening, according to the Daily Mail.

Hospital employees said David Perry's actions saved dozens of lives.

The taxi driver told police that his passenger had originally asked to be taken to Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral, half a mile from the hospital, where an event was being held to commemorate England's national heroes.

A close friend of Perry said that due to the closures, the man was unable to bring his passenger near the event. The assailant then asked them to head towards the city center. But when they drove past the gynecology clinic, he instructed the taxi driver to pull into the facility's parking lot.
At that point, the driver already sensed that something was wrong, quickly jumped out of the car and locked it on the assailant.

"What David did is the most heroic thing I've ever heard. If the bomber had made it to the hospital, who knows how many people would have died"

- said a close acquaintance.

At a fundraiser on Sunday evening, 8,500 pounds (3.6 million forints) were collected for the self-sacrificing taxi driver.

The police accuse three men arrested in connection with the case of terrorism.

The police classified the explosion in Liverpool as an act of terrorism

On Monday, the police classified the bombing incident in Liverpool the day before as an act of terrorism. At the same time, the regional head of the British counter-terrorism service, Russ Jackson, emphasized in his briefing on Monday that the motive for the act is not yet known.

Russ Jackson said at Monday's briefing: according to the investigation so far, an improvised, home-made explosive device went off, and it is likely that the device was assembled by the passenger of the taxi.

According to the police chief, it is not known why the person took the taxi to the gynecology clinic, nor why the explosive device suddenly went off there.

Referring to the speculations published in the British press, Jackson said: the police are aware that the memorial service held in November every year in honor of the British war dead began near the hospital at the very moment of the explosion, but at the moment there is no investigation data to indicate that the incident and the event would have been connected.

The regional head of the police anti-terrorist service stated that although the motive for the explosion is unknown, taking into account all the circumstances, the service classified the incident as a terrorist act.
