On the occasion of All Saints' Day and the Day of the Dead, the capital's cemeteries will be open until 8:00 p.m. until November 2, the funeral division of Budapest Public Works (BTI) informed MTI on Thursday.

From October 27 to November 2, the cemeteries will be open from seven in the morning to eight in the evening, from November 3, the usual opening hours will be in effect again, i.e. from eight thirty in the morning to five in the afternoon, they said.

This year, a central memorial service will be held in two cemeteries: on October 31 from five o'clock in the afternoon in the Új Köztemető scattering plot, and on November 1 also from five o'clock in the afternoon in the Farkasrét cemetery, in the square in front of the funeral home.

BTI also helps visitors to the Új public cemetery, which has the highest traffic, by allowing them to reach their relatives' graves by minibus free of charge from October 29 to November 1. The vehicle is available between eight in the morning and five in the afternoon, they wrote.

It was announced that in order to ensure the tranquility of the funeral sites, it is forbidden to drive into the cemeteries from October 29 to November 2. An exception to this is the New Public Cemetery, where you can enter for free during this period. Attention was also drawn to the fact that vehicles transporting visitors with a valid mobility restricted card in European Union countries can drive into cemeteries without a time limit, if the traffic of the graves allows this. Visitors with limited mobility are asked to visit the cemeteries on these days, if possible, in the morning hours with less traffic. However, due to their small size, the Angeli Street and Tamás Street cemeteries are completely closed to vehicular traffic.

In order to ensure a safe visit to the cemetery and the smooth flow of traffic, the cemeteries will have a reinforced law enforcement service, and the district police, public area inspectors and civil guards will also be on patrol.

The mortuary of the Farkasrét cemetery and the chapel located at the entrance to the Óbuda cemetery will be illuminated from dusk on All Saints' Day and All Dead's Day with gracious motifs and light painting appropriate to the occasion, they said.
