He spoke about this in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia in Budapest today.

The long-term solution to the energy crisis is if as much energy as possible arrives on the European continent from as many directions as possible, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said today in Budapest.

The Prime Minister and Irakli Garibasvili, Prime Minister of Georgia (pictured) signed a strategic partnership agreement. In their joint press statement, Viktor Orbán emphasized that the increasing supply can lower prices, which is in the basic interest of Hungary, since the country is "fighting against inflation, which is largely due to high energy prices".

He explained: "a large-scale new energy cooperation is taking shape", to which the Hungarians have a special interest. They want to create a new, huge electricity pipeline system that would bring energy from Azerbaijan to Hungary via Georgia and Romania, he explained.

He said: with this, they could replace a large amount of natural gas, the kind of natural gas that is now used to produce electricity in Hungary. Instead, they could receive this electricity directly, he pointed out.

He noted that his colleague from Georgia supports this program wholeheartedly.

He also spoke about the fact that a very bad, discriminatory decision was made in Brussels when they granted EU candidate status to Moldova and Ukraine, but did not grant it to Georgia. "This is an inexplicable, morally unacceptable and harmful decision," he opined. He added: Georgia has earned membership candidacy with the work of the past years, the rejection decision from Brussels is disrespectful to the people and nation of Georgia.

Viktor Orbán stated: Hungary continues to support the granting of candidate member status to Georgia as soon as possible, and provides experts to its government to help prepare for the negotiations. Sixteen Hungarians work in the monitoring mission of the European Union, he added.

The prime minister pointed out that it was agreed that next year this will be preceded by a meeting of the sector ministers, where they will prepare the joint government meeting. With all this, they want to give a big boost to the economic cooperation of the two countries, he said.

He also said: There is a strong positive prejudice against Georgia in Hungary, and although the two countries are far from each other, their geopolitical situation shows many similarities. "It is not difficult for a Hungarian to understand the main thread of Georgian history, and it is not difficult for a Georgian to understand the main thread of Hungarian history", since both are nations with "great cultural traditions and a unique language", which need this culture and this language in the ring of peoples bigger than them. to maintain - he said.

He believed that "this is our mission, so that this culture, this language, this is not lost".

The prime minister emphasized that their positions are very close to each other when it comes to geopolitics, war and peace. "In the Ukrainian-Russian war, we Hungarians want an immediate ceasefire and peace negotiations as soon as possible, and this is very similar to the Georgian approach," said Viktor Orbán.

Georgia's most important goal is to achieve the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union, and then membership, Irakli Garibasvili said at the press conference. The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his gratitude for Hungary's support in achieving this, as well as for the territorial integrity of his country. He emphasized: Georgia is currently working on the implementation of the European Council's proposals, and their economy shows double-digit growth every year.

The Georgian Prime Minister also reported that they would like to become a member of NATO, for which they have already made enormous sacrifices in the international roles of the military organization, including in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Irakli Garibasvili deemed the war in Ukraine totally unacceptable, and Ukraine is supported by his country in every possible way, he added.

He expressed his joy about the strategic partnership between the two countries, and also announced that Georgia will support the energy project, which is very important for Hungary. His country takes an example from the successful reforms in Hungary, he added, and also thanked for the Hungarian scholarships for Georgian university students.
