According to a Downing Street source, the protection of women and girls is a priority for Sunak's government, Mandiner reports.

Rishi Sunak is planning a review of the Equality Act to make it clear that

gender refers to biological sex and not to gender.

This would mean that biological males cannot compete in women's sports, and other single-sex facilities such as locker rooms and women's shelters are protected.

It would also mean that transgender self-identification has no legal force, meaning that transgender women have no right to access women-only facilities.
