More than seven hundred thousand people have filled out and returned the national consultation questionnaire so far, Judit Varga announced on Monday in Szombathely. The Minister of Justice in Let's say no to sanctions! He emphasized at the forum held in the framework of the country visit and at the press conference that preceded it: the national consultation enables all our compatriots to directly share their opinions with the Hungarian government, to say what they think about the issues that most directly affect our country.

He went on to say that few people in Western Europe understand the system of national consultations, which is rather strange, since it is one of the most direct tools of democracy. The consultations make it possible for the government not only to come into contact with the voters every four years, during the elections, but also to have a continuous dialogue on the most important issues affecting the fate of the nation, Judit Varga indicated.

He reminded that national consultations on issues such as migration, child protection or the fight against the coronavirus had also been concluded with great success in the past, helping to take appropriate government steps in difficult, often crisis situations.

"I urge all Hungarian citizens to use the opportunity and share their opinion with us regarding the Brussels sanctions. It is very important for the Hungarian government to be able to adequately represent a strong Hungarian position (…), so everyone who has not done so should fill out the consultation forms by the December 9 deadline," he said.

Judit Varga put it this way: it is clearly visible that the Brussels sanctions did not bring an end to the war, therefore only an immediate ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations can be a way out of the war and the economic crisis that the sanctions have caused to Europe.

In response to a question, the minister stated: the government held intensive negotiations with the European Commission in a constructive atmosphere, an agreement was reached on 17 commitments that were professionally acceptable to the Hungarian government.

During the fall, the Parliament worked continuously on the fulfillment of the commitments; in the meantime, the eighteenth question concerning the independence of the judiciary and its guarantees arose, in connection with which the Hungarian government undertook to make the necessary amendments by mid-March, he added.

At the same time, Judit Varga noted: while many officials of the Hungarian government worked day and night to ensure that the Hungarian people had access to the EU funds due to them, the Hungarian left in the forums of the European Union worked continuously to prevent the Hungarian people from having access to the EU funds.
